Mike Skelly Hastings County ON, Paramedic died tragically, Community mourns his death

On behalf of the Peel Paramedic Benevolent Fund we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends, co-workers at Hastings Quinte Paramedic Services, for the loss of their colleague Mike Skelly. Mike passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, August 20, 2023.

Mike Skelly was a well-known paramedic in Hastings and Prince Edward Counties for over 25 years. It is a sad time for many in the Hastings community who knew him during the course of his life.

Passing of Retired Peel Paramedic Dave Smiley

It is with sadness that PRPS bring you news of the passing of Dave Smiley. Dave was a paramedic, a partner and a friend to many here at the Region of Peel for many years before retiring at the age of 65. Unfortunately, in more recent years, Dave was battling a number of serious health issues and passed away November 2022 leaving behind his wife Susan who also worked for the Region of Peel as a Public Health Nurse.

‘Bright light’: Paramedic loses hard-fought battle with cancer

On behalf of the Peel Paramedic Benevolent Fund we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family, friends, co-workers at Simcoe County Paramedics, for the loss of their colleague Marianne Orsan.

Marianne Orsan, who served as a professional standards supervisor with the county-wide paramedic service, died in her sleep at home on Monday, Feb. 6, less than two weeks shy of her 44th birthday.

Marianne was a grad of Humber College and their Paramedic program.

Passing of Brendan Gibson

On Sunday, February 26th, Brendan Gibson, passed away from a severe asthma attack leaving everyone that he knew devastated from the news.

For those who had a chance to know him, Brendan always had a radiant smile and charismatic personality. He worked as a UCA at Trillium hospital ER and subsequently an ACO at Cambridge CACC. He has forever made an impact on all the lives he touched. Brendan’s memory will be carried on by his father Brian, mother Kim, brother Mitchell and sister Kristen and his puppy Bella.

Our collective hearts go out to our friends and colleagues in Cambridge CACC on the loss of their co-worker, from your Peel Paramedic family.

Peel Paramedic Chris Rix

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Peel Regional Paramedic Service Primary Care Paramedic Chris Rix who died on June 5, 2017. He is survived by his wife and daughter.

It has been a trying week at Peel Regional Paramedic Services as we come to grips with Chris’ death. He was a friend to many co-workers out of Tedlo Base in Mississauga. He will be sadly missed.

Funeral arrangments have been sent to regional emails and dress uniforms are requested if available. If not a uniform with black tie is requested.

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Peel Regional Paramedic Service Advanced Care Paramedic Martin Wood on January 31, 2016. Please see the Peel Paramedic Association’s media release: MartinWood_Release.

Martin was the paramedic that paramedics thrived to emulate. Smart, smooth and compassionate. His compassion was felt by all who came in contact with him.

It has been a very trying week for all at Peel Regional Paramedic Services and all through the tight-knit paramedic community as we come to terms with this great loss.

As Advanced Care Paramedic Kendall Barrett-Smith put it on the GoFundMe page that has been created to help Martin’s family: “We’re raising funds for our good friend, colleague and mentor. Martin was an inspiration and prime example of an outstanding paramedic to all of his friends and coworkers. He would have been the first to step up for a friend. Let’s step up for Martin and help out his family. ” Click here if you wish to help the family of the man who helped so many in their time of need.

Paramedic Martin Wood’s funeral will be held Sunday, February 7, 2016 in Midland. The family requests that NO DRESS OR REGULAR UNIFORMS BE WORN to the funeral or visitation. Please be respectful of the family’s wishes.

Arrangements:

Visitiation: Saturday, February 6, 2016 from 11am to 9pm at Christian Island United Church located at Kate Kegwin Street, Christian Island.

Funeral: Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 11am at Christian Island United Church, Kate Kegwin Street, Christian Island.

A ferry is required to access Christian Island. The schedule can be found here.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Tema Conter Memorial Trust.
