Our thoughts this morning are with our Peel Police Officers after an incident in which two officers are reportedly shot and one of those officers stabbed as well. Peel Regional Paramedics responded to the officer down.
On behalf of the Peel Paramedic Benevolent Fund we will keep those officers in our thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery and thank you to all officers for the hard work that you do.
Update: Funeral Arrangements for Paramedic William Mallock
Visitation will take place Tuesday, August 19, 2014 from 2-4pm and 6-9pm at Seal Cove Baptist Church on Grand Manan, NB.
Funeral will take place on Wednesday August 20, 2104 at the Community Centre starting at 1:30pm followed by an open reception. A private graveside ceremony will follow.
It is encouraged that paramedics should attend in uniform or dress uniform with a black ribbon in place.
It is recommended that you obtain a reservation for the ferry from Blacks Harbour at 9:30am.
Please respect a scent free environment and artificial flowers only.
It is with heavy hearts that all paramedics mourn the loss of Paramedic William Mallock, a 20 year veteran paramedic of Ambulance New Brunswick (ANB) as well as a veteran pilot, Klaus Sonnenberg. The other pilot and a nurse on board survived the crash.
Ambulance New Brunswick and Global News has reported the crash happened at 5am, Aug. 16, 2014 at Grand Manan Airport after dropping off a patient at Saint John Regional Hospital.

Update June 19, 2014: The three paramedics have been identified by Ottawa Paramedic Services. Two Ottawa Police Service Tactical Officers suffered minor injuries. Tactical Paramedic Bradley Ross suffered minor injuries and despite his injuries he was the first to help his two paramedic team members who were more seriously injured. Tactical Paramedic Reid Purdy and Tactical Paramedic/Supt. Craig MacInnes suffered secondary burns and were admitted to ICU as a precaution and intubated and sedated. Ottawa Paramedic Services has updated that both Reid and Craig are awake but still intubated. They have both been able to communicate using cue cards. The Professional Paramedic Assocation of Ottawa sent gift baskets to the Queensway-Carelton Hospital Emergency Department Staff and the Ottawa General Hospital ICU staff as a thank you for their commitment and amazing care of their fellow paramedics. The Ottawa Paramedic Service Tactical team members kept vigil at the hospital during this tough time as well as the RCMP Tactical team visited the pair in the Ottawa General Hospital ICU. Please keep Reid and Craig in your thoughts for a speedy recovery. The families of Reid and Craig have requested privacy while the pair make their recovery from their injuries.

News is reaching us that three Ottawa paramedics and two police officers have been injured in a joint training exercise that involved explosives. Ottawa Paramedic Services Chief Anthony Do Monte reports that two paramedics are in ‘very serious condition’ in a trauma centre.
All other injuries have been described as minor.
Paramedics regularly train with police and RCMP in the nation’s capitol.
Our thoughts are with the families and peers of those injured today.
On June 4, 2014 three Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) Officers were killed in the line of duty in Moncton, New Brunswick. End of Watch June 4, 2014 for Const. David Ross, 32, from Victoriaville, QC; Const. Fabrice Georges Gevaudan, 45, from Boulogne-Billancourt, France; and Const. Douglas James Larche, 40, from Saint John, NB. Two RCMP Officers were wounded as well on this sad day.
On behalf of the Peel Paramedic Benevolent Fund we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the families, coworkers, the RCMP, and the policing community. It is truly a tragedy that three fine officers lost their lives. It goes without saying, in emergency services, when one, in this case three, fall we all feel it. We hope that the two wounded officers make a smooth and quick recovery from their injuries.
A RCMP Regimental Funeral will be held in Moncton, NB on Tuesday, June 10, 2014 at 1:00pm at Moncton Coliseum, 377 Killam Drive, in Moncton, NB. A parade of RCMP and other law enforcement officer will take place before the funeral. For those who wish to send their messages of condolences, the RCMP has set up an online condolences email. Most police departments and town halls across Canada have a book of condolences that members of the public can sign as well.
On the night of June 9, 2014, please keep a front light on all night in honour of these three fine officers. Heroes in Life, Not in Death.
Today I had another friend of mine tell me, I could never do your job. I cannot tell you how many times I have heard this over the last 8 years as a Paramedic. But it got me thinking about the special type of person a Paramedic is that can come to work everyday and never know what to expect. Sometimes you laugh and sometimes you are almost in tears. You, Paramedics, are definitely ordinary people doing extraordinary things for people you have never met. John Wooden said, You cannot live a perfect day without doing something for someone who will never be able to repay you. Paramedics save people every single day and for this how can anyone ever repay you? You as Paramedics live perfect days everyday.
As Paramedic Week 2014 winds down for another year it seems like this is one if not the best Paramedic Weeks ever. Through social media it seemed as though every Paramedic Service across Ontario and Canada was participating in open houses, CPR clinics, car seat clinics, etc. Peel Paramedics were featured in the Mississauga News for this years’ Paramedic Week Celebrations. Peel Paramedics Service gave us a #BehindTheScenes look at how the Peel Paramedic Service manages a 97,000/year call volume with 500+ paramedic and support staff, 50 ambulances, and 8 Rapid Response Units, on twitter (@Peel_Paramedics). The Peel Paramedic Association applied their trade at a local car seat clinic and CPR demos in conjuction with Peel Paramedic Services along with their amazing BBQ supplied by our very own Peel Paramedic John Waito. Chief Peter Dundas and Commissioner Janette Smith came to enjoy some of the great BBQ as well. Andy the Ambulance made an appearance and was a hit with the younger crowd.
Last year on this day, May 31 the Paramedic family lost two Paramedics and ORNGE Pilots in a crash near Moosenee while responding to help a patient in need. Please take a moment and remember Flight Paramedic Chris Snowball, Flight Paramedic Dustin Dagenais, First Officer Jaques Dupuy, and Captain Don Filliter. Its a reminder to us all that not all Paramedics make it home to their families. Simcoe and Peel Paramedic Paul Carson has put together a sensational video commemorating these fine Paramedics and Pilots as well as all Paramedics.

Paramedic Week is a time that we celebrate Paramedics across Canada. The motto for this year’s celebration is “Our Family Helping Yours”. Its a time when Paramedics can reflect on those few and far between but heartfelt thank yous that patients and their families have said after Paramedics have helped them in their time of need or crisis. Paramedic Services across Canada are celebrating with many events that promote Paramedics and Paramedicine within the community.
Peel Regional Paramedic Services (@Peel_Paramedics), Peel Paramedics Association (@ParamedicAssoc) , and OPSEU Local 277 (@OPSEU277) will be holding many events from CPR clinics, car seat clinics, etc. On Twitter a #BehindTheScenes look on May 27th at what it takes to handle a 97,000 per year call volume with 500+ Paramedics, Management, and Support Staff. If you see a Paramedic this week, please shake their hand and give them a thank you for what they do for your community and your families. Paramedics are there for the citizens of Canada 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and 365 days a year. They miss time with their families to help yours. They miss Christmas, New Years, and all holidays that others take for granted. Paramedics love helping people and they love saving lives. Paramedics are a humble group but love to tell a story. Paramedics are ordinary people doing extraordinary things in some of the worst environments and conditions imaginable.

Toronto Paramedic Service will be holding a memorial for Paramedic Nancy Fouineteau at their headquarters on 4330 Dufferin Street, Toronto at 1400 hours on Friday, May 2, 2014. All Paramedics, Police, and Fire who wish to attend are requested to wear full dress uniforms.
Today is the inaugural National First Responders Day. Thank you to all Paramedics, Police Officers, and Firefighters for all their hard work everyday across Canada. Please take a moment to reflect on what they do and the lives saved.
We mourn the passing of Toronto Paramedic Nancy Fouineteau who died suddenly. We have been informed that this was a non Line of Duty Death (non LODD). We endeavour to update information as we are made aware.
